(Atlantic) Grant Petty of the Atlantic FFA, and his Iowa State Fair Grand Champion FFA Market Hog brought $40,000 during the prestigious Iowa State Fair Sale of Champions on Saturday. Each year, sixteen standout 4-H and FFA exhibitors auction their Grand and Reserve Grand Champion animals, representing the best of each species shown during the Fair’s highly competitive livestock events. The Exhibitor keep 80 percent of the proceeds, and the other 20 percent goes to the IFAA for next year’s scholarships. The 16 participants seek sponsors, whether from private businesses or individuals, and the funds raised contribute to the starting bid at the sale.
Petty, who will be a junior in high school this fall, stated he is going to save the money for college and invest the balance of the funds raised from the auction.
It has undoubtedly been a busy year for Grant. He is involved in football, basketball, track, baseball, and archery, along with his time spent with his sheep and hog projects in FFA and 4H.
Congratulations to Grant Petty for exhibiting the Iowa State FFA Grand Champion Market Gilt. He is the son of Darrin and Melanie Petty of Atlantic.
