(Audubon, IA) — The Iowa State Fair wrapped up yesterday and it was a strong fair for Audubon FFA. After Carson Bauer and Macey Bauer got awards in the beef category, the Elmquist brothers got awards for their pigs. Lane Elmquist’s hog “Red” was a Champion in the Duroc Barrow division and also won Reserve Grand Champion for Pure Breed Market Hog. Lane says a duroc is an American breed of a domestic pig and is known for their color
Lane Elmquist is 17 years old and will be a Senior at Audubon High. He plans on going to Iowa State but is undecided as a major. He does say that its a big deal showing his pigs at the State Fair
Lane’s younger brother Leyton Elmquist won for his pig “Crumb” which was Champion in Division I of the Cross Breed Market Hog. Leyton says that he and his brother work on their pigs together so when one wins, they both win and he has learned a lot from his hard work
Leyton just turned 16 years old last Thursday and will be a Sophomore at Audubon and had a great way of choosing his pig’s name
Lane and Leyton Elmquist both hope to have pigs win Grand Champion awards one day and participate in the traditional Saturday Great Sale.
In addition to the Elmquists and Bauers, Brylie Andersen of Audubon won Champion in Commercial Doe for her goat.
