(Des Moines) Iowa drivers are seeing a slight break at the pump this week. According to AAA, the average price for regular unleaded gasoline in the state dropped 4 cents from last week, now sitting at $2.92 per gallon. That’s 34 cents cheaper than a year ago and well below Wednesday’s national average of $3.16, which is down 1 cent from last week.
Diesel prices in Iowa held steady at $3.56 per gallon, remaining 16 cents lower than the national average of $3.72. A year ago, diesel sold for $3.48 statewide.
Crude oil prices also saw a sharp decline. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) fell $3.36 to $62.38 per barrel, while Brent crude dropped $2.78 to $65.43. One year ago, WTI traded at $79.81 and Brent at $82.51.

Natural gas prices also declined, falling 22 cents at the Henry Hub to $2.82 per million British thermal units (MMBtu). Retail heating oil and propane price reporting in Iowa will resume in October.
