(Clarke County) Two people suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash in Clarke County.
The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened on Saturday at 2:25 p.m. on Northbound Interstate 35 near the 26-mile marker. Authorities say 41-year-old Natasha Marie Lyons, and 11-year-old Sawyer Whitt, both from Leon were injured in the crash.
According to the report, Whitt was driving a 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan northbound on Interstate 35. A 2015 Freightliner semi driven by 47-year-old Aden Abdi Somo of St. Louis, Missouri, was stopped on the right shoulder of the northbound lanes with hazard lights on due to mechanical issues and preparing to re-enter the roadway.
Authorities say as the van approached the semi, it failed to move over and side-swiped the Freightliner. The Dodge Caravan crossed both northbound lanes and came to rest in the median.
Mercy One Air Med transported Sawyer Whitt to Blanks Children’s Hospital ER. Life Flight Air Med transported Natasha Lyons to Iowa Methodist.
The accident remains under investigation.
