(Atlantic) In an update from the Iowa State Patrol this morning, the 8-year-old child involved in a vehicle-pedestrian accident in Atlantic has passed away.
The incident occurred around 7:47 p.m. on West Sixth Street near Birch Street. 22-year-old Todd Schwab of Atlantic was driving a 1999 Chevy Suburban westbound on 6th Street when the child ran into the roadway from 401 West Sixth Street and was struck by the vehicle.
The child was airlifted to Methodist Children’s Hospital in Des Moines with serious injuries. The child succumbed to injuries this morning.
The incident is still under investigation.
