(Corning) The Iowa Transportation Commission has approved $9.6 million for the Fiscal Year 2026 State Aviation Program, funding airport safety, planning, and development projects across the state.
The Airport Improvement Program (AIP) will receive $6.7 million for safety initiatives, system planning, and air service development, as well as infrastructure upgrades at 25 airports. Eligible projects include runway and taxiway improvements, navigational aids, weather system maintenance, and wildlife hazard mitigation.
Aviation vertical infrastructure programs will receive $2.9 million for facility improvements at four general aviation airports and eight commercial service airports. These funds support terminal buildings, maintenance facilities, and hangars.
In southwest Iowa, funding includes:
Atlantic Municipal Airport – East Taxilane Extension ($91,000 state share)
Council Bluffs Municipal Airport – Hangar Apron ($82,500) and Box Hangar ($300,000)
Creston Municipal Airport – GA Terminal Site Improvements ($158,100) and New GA Terminal Building ($135,720)
The program is funded through aircraft registration fees, aviation fuel taxes, and Rebuild Iowa Infrastructure Fund appropriations.
