(Atlantic) — It was a banner day for Atlantic FFA member Grant Petty at the Iowa State Fair. Petty, the son of Darrin and Melanie Petty, exhibited the Grand Champion Market Hog in Friday’s FFA Pig Show. His winning gilt tipped the scales at 290 pounds.
The day started modestly, with his market barrow finishing seventh in its class. But his market gilt told a different story. She won her class and then her division in short order, setting the stage for the championship drive.
From there, Petty and his gilt claimed the top honor. The pair will take part in the “FFA Exhibitors Parade of Champions “at 3:30 on Saturday, August 9. The gilt will be sold at the Championship Auction at the Iowa State Fair on August 16.
