(Harlan, IA) — The scores at the beginning of the season for the Harlan Softball team were not pretty at times but the Cyclones did not give in and improved throughout the season. Despite a first round loss in the regional playoffs to Atlantic, Harlan won five of six games in late season stretch. Head Coach Brett Croghan hopes the team can carry that momentum into 2026 especially since they had no seniors on the club
Harlan must get improvement from their pitchers with a team ERA of 7.08. Sophomore Camryn Goshorn and Junior Lauren Schmitz saw the majority of the action in the circle, each had 12 starts on the season. Junior Rebekah Christensen made 7 starts and 8th grader Mylee Hytrek made four appearances. Croghan says the competition to see who gets the most work is wide open
Offensively, the Cyclones have a player to build a line up around in Freshman Taylor Heese who led the team in hitting with a .322 average with 4 HR and 23 RBI. Croghan says there are others to put around Heese in the top of the line up
Croghan says this team did not give up despite losing 18 of 19 games to start the season and will be looking to improve their 7-24 record.
