(Guthrie Center) A Guthrie County man suffered serious injuries in a lawn mower accident.
The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened on Thursday, July 31, on North 7th Street in Guthrie Center. Authorities identified the injured operator as 87-year-old Franklin Ray Mains, of Guthrie Center.
According to the report, Mains was mowing westbound on a steep slope when the John Deere X595 mower lost traction, overturned, and unknown number of times down the steep grade, ejecting Mains, and landed on him, causing serious, incapacitating injuries before coming to rest on its’ wheels facing west, still running with the PTO engaged.
Arriving Law Enforcement found Franklin Mains lying on the ground.
Panora EMS transported Mains to Mercy Downtown Campus in Des Moines.
