(Corning, IA) — Southwest Valley could be a team to watch in the Pride of Iowa next season — the T-Wolves won 10 games this year with zero seniors and just two juniors. Head Coach Keegan Longabaugh is excited about going into the off season with the same group of players
Southwest was led this season by Junior Gavin Wetzel who hit .482 with 16 RBI, scored 33 runs and stole 24 bases. On the mound, he was 4-2 with a 4.12 ERA. Improving the pitching will be a priority for Longabaugh — the Timberwolves had a team ERA of 6.47. Freshman Casey Jones has some upside on the mound — he was 3-3 with a 5.65 ERA in 7 starts and 11 overall appearances and Longabaugh says he exceeded his expectations this season
Junior Wyatt Mendenhall improved his batting average by over 100 points during the season and ended up hitting .317. Sophomore Walker Bissell hit .431 and led the team with 35 RBI plus had 11 pitching appearances. Sophomore Brody Crozier hit .367. Hudson Bissell, Ethan Johnston, and Caleb Owen all are young players will ability so future is exciting says Longabaugh
Longabaugh is also the football coach and he says he has coached this group of kids since middle school and it has helped with the team’s chemistry.
