(Atlantic) The Vision Atlantic Camblin Hills Development project continues to progress, with the housing development part of the project slated to start soon. Meanwhile, fundraising efforts for the 300-capacity daycare facility and YMCA expansion continue, with 80 percent of the total needed by the end of this year to make these two projects a reality.
Billie Hoover, born and raised in Atlantic, is co-chair of the recreation committee. Hoover admits she has worked outside the community, and consistently recognized Atlantic as her home. She became involved in this $84 million transformative project upon learning of the population decline in Atlantic and the business dynamics in town. Hoover knew that if Atlantic is to remain relevant, the city must have places for people to live, and daycare for the working mother and fathers.
Hoover acknowledges that many people don’t fully understand the project. She admits it can be somewhat complicated, as it involves three distinct components: a housing development, a daycare center, and an expansion of the YMCA.
Vision Atlantic, a non-profit organization launched in October 2022, is dedicated to fostering growth, improving lives, and building a stronger community through the economic development of Atlantic. The group is led by a seven-member board and supported by 60 individuals serving on various project committees.
Hoover encourages people to reflect on their family dynamics and consider how they can contribute to the community. She says the organization is actively seeking support, noting that while there are many passionate leaders with strong ideas, bringing the vision to life requires both funding and resources.
Regarding the housing portion of the project, Vision Atlantic President Christina Bateman says contractors are currently reviewing the agreements. She expects the contracts to be returned and signed within the next week to ten days, allowing construction on the housing development to begin.
