(Oakland, IA) — 4-19 is not what Riverside’s Baseball team was hoping for this season but Head Coach Kyler Morgan believes his team improved throughout the season, especially offensively. The Bulldogs batted .275 as a team but the pitching ERA was 9.74. Morgan says the staff just gave up too many free bases
Sophomore Cole Jeppesen made more starts than anyone but had an 8.04 ERA although had 28 strikeouts in 27 innings. Sophomores Peyton Amdor, Owen Fenner and Victor Alfonso and Senior Paxtyn Meek saw a lot of time on the mound — Alfonso led the team in innings with 30 2/3 in 9 appearances and 4 starts. Morgan says it was a young staff
With the bats, Jeppesen and Fenner were the leading hitters — Jeppesen hit .343 with 23 hits, 21 of which were singles with 25 runs scored while Fenner batted .320 with 24 hits, 19 were singles, with 13 runs scored. Both players had 13 RBI which led the team. Meek hit .299, Junior Aaron Smith had a good start and finished at .277. Morgan felt like his hitters battled all season long
Riverside loses four seniors — Kellen Oliver, Lucas Doyle, Keaten Rieken, and Meek.
