(Area) — Three Atlantic Trojans have been named to the 2025 All-State Softball Team by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association: Junior Lila Wiederstein and Sophomore Peyton McLaren were named to the 2nd team in Class 3A while Junior Zoey Kirchhoff was named to the third team.
Wiederstein finished 5th in the H-10 in batting average, hitting .471 on the season — she also had 7 HR and 37 RBI, had 48 total hits with 13 doubles and 5 triples. Peyton McLaren led the conference in ERA at 1.54 and was 2nd in the Hawkeye Ten in wins with 16 and also hit .310, 2, 23 with 19 runs. Kirchhoff was 4th in the conference in RBI with 44, batting .383 with 3 HR and led Atlantic in hits with 49.
Riverside got four players honored in Class 1A — Senior Elly Henderson and Junior Madison Kelley were named to the first team, Freshman Peyton Schafer to the third team and Junior Adaline Martens to honorable mention.
Henderson hit .273, 0, 13 but was known for her speed and defense in center field, leading the Bulldogs with 29 stolen bases, scored 27 runs, and committed just 2 errors all season. Kelley was 9th in Class 1A with 46 RBI and hit .478 with 4 HR, 11 doubles, 2 triples, and 31 runs scored. Schafer hit .474, 3, 27 and was among the Class 1A strikeout leaders with 133 and had a 2.22 ERA in the circle. Martens had 5 hits in the state tournament and was named to the 1A all-tournament team — for the season batting .468, 2, 20 with 32 runs and 13 doubles.
Underwood’s SS Senior Mary Stephens was named first team All-State in Class 2A. Griswold-CAM had two players honored — Senior Marissa Askleland was a second team selection and Freshman Ailey Wahlert was on the third team. Sophomore Riley Miller of Exira EHK Audubon was a third team selection. Senior Hayden Thomas from Tri Center was as second team selection. Treynor’s Junior Pitcher Delaney Matthews was a first team all stater and Junior Adalyn Minahan from the Cardinals was on the third team.
Stephens stole 48 bases in 50 attempts and batted .519 to lead the Eagles. Askeland hit .424, 2, 21 for the Tigers and scored 35 runs while Wahlert was the workhorse in the circle with a 2.55 ERA with 146 K’s plus hit .413, 5, 37. Miller hit .372, 0, 18 and had a 1.67 ERA with 188 strikeouts. Thomas hit .479, 2, 13 to lead the Trojans and had a 2.75 ERA in 22 games pitched. For Treynor, Matthews hit .559, 6, 33 and had a 1.20 ERA in the circle with 182 K’s. Minahan at catcher hit .438, 3, 31 and had a .986 fielding percentage behind the plate.
