(Denison) – Some of the region’s top 4-H and FFA showmen and their livestock will converge tonight at the Crawford County Fairgrounds in Denison for the 8th annual “Best of the West” Show.
The event, which begins at 6:00 p.m., showcases standout exhibitors from ten counties. Beth McDermott of Atlantic, who serves as the event’s treasurer, says local support has been outstanding, with around $35,000 raised this year alone to help fund the show.
McDermott estimates approximately 80 exhibitors will participate.
McDermott emphasizes that the competition isn’t just about having the most expensive animal.
Introductions are set to begin at 6:00 p.m., with the show starting at 6:30. The competition opens with breeding goats, followed by breeding gilts, ewes, and heifers. Market animals will be shown next, in the same order. The Show is live-streamed on KDSN.
The Supreme Champions in both the Market and Breeding divisions for each species will move on to Oskaloosa on Sunday, August 3, to face top competitors from nine other districts.
