(Adair Co) The Adair County Board of Supervisors received reports from the County Sheriff, Veterans Affairs, and the County Engineer this morning.
Sheriff Jeff Vandewater reported on the hospital’s proposed increase in meal prices for the jail. The one-dollar increase will raise the cost to $8.50 per meal. Vandewater noted that the last price increase occurred six years ago. The new contract also states that meal prices will now automatically increase by five percent each year on July 1st unless the contract is terminated by either party.

Sheriff Vandewater said the hospital is accommodating, as the interstate brings in people of various religions and backgrounds, requiring them to provide options such as kosher meals or doctor-prescribed diets.
The Supervisors approved the contract.
Gwen Johnston with Veterans Affairs reviewed her annual report. Johnston said they are working on stepping up their suicide prevention efforts. She said they have created posters with information on the Veterans Affairs Office for those seeking help.
Johnston also mentioned that her office has not been affected by the Federal cuts.
Johnston noted, they are at the point of getting an engraver lined up and applications out for the Memorial Wall.
And, the Supervisors approved the following items presented by County Engineer Nick Kauffman:
-Contract and Performance Bond for N11 Lincoln Bridge Project
-Right of Way Contract for W18 Harrison Bridge Project
-Awarded contract to GovCo for the N27 Lincoln Bridge Project in the amount of $287,880.25.
