The Audubon Wheelers had a good opening day this summer winning their first game against Griswold 20-3, but wins were hard to come by in the Western Iowa Conference this season. Following the win, the Wheelers were struggling to find success until they rattled off four wins in a row during the middle of the summer. However, after the that four game win streak, Audubon finished the year 1-7.
Head coach Eric Borkowski thought the season as a whole, was okay.
The Wheelers will have to replace six seniors, five of which started in 20 plus games for Audubon. Among those departures are three of the top four pitchers for the Wheelers, who all had more than 16 innings pitched.
Audubon does not have a lot of returning production for next season, only bringing back three players who played in 20 games this season in Carson Wessel, Brody Schultes, and Aiden Kjiergaard. However, Wessel led the team in batting average, hits and RBIs and Schultes led the team in stolen bases and Kjiergaard led the team in walks.
Borkowski says they need to improve on the mound for them to be successful next season.
