(Anita) The Cass County Community of Anita is celebrating a milestone this weekend. It is the City’s 150th Anniversary, and the committee is celebrating with a long list of activities starting with the opening ceremonies on Friday evening.
Food Trucks and Anita Fire State Steak Sandwich meal kicks off the events on Walnut Street at 5:00 p.m. The Fire Department’s Bag Tournament Registration starts at 6:00 p.m., along with the kids’ parade, and the CAM Cubs Childcare cool-off fundraiser, which includes water activities, bubbles, popcorn, sundae bar, and snow cones.
Ann Thelen, President of the sesquicentennial Planning Committee, says that at 6:15 p.m. will be the opening ceremonies, awards, and crownings at the bandshell in Park. The crowning includes the Little Miss, the Little Mister, and the Sesquicentennial Governor and Lady Anita.
The bags tournament starts at 6:30, and scavenger hunt registration starts at 6:30 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. start time. At 6:45, the 150th Birthday cake/ice cream social, along with a showing of Anita’s 1975 centennial/other home movies, will be held at the community center. The kids’ glow foam party and adult high striker-strong man will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Also capping off the evening will be Ho Kelloway Littleton and the Chuggaluggers.
There is a long list of activities planned for Saturday, with a handful of additional activities scheduled for Sunday.
