(Des Moines) Recent storms and heavy rain have helped Iowa’s drought conditions. Officials say the latest drought report showed Iowa as nearly drought-free, with less than one percent of the state experiencing moderate drought conditions. This comes a few months after over 70 percent of Iowa faced moderate to severe drought conditions in the March report. The last time the state was drought-free was in July 2024.
Wapello County in extreme southeast Iowa, and the western border of Mills County are the only counties under a D1 or moderate drought category. Otherwise, abnormally dry conditions remain in Montgomery, Mills, and Fremont counties in southwest Iowa.
