(Fort Dodge) Riverside squares off against St. Edmond in a Class 1A State Softball third-place game this evening.
The fourth-seeded Bulldogs topped fifth-seed Newell-Fonda in the first round 14-6, and fell short to the number one seed Wayne in the semifinals, 7-3. St. Edmond, a sixth seed, rolled past third-seeded Wapsie Valley 11-2 in the first round and fell short to second-seeded Clarksville, 11-3.
Breaking down the two teams.
Both squads bring potent offenses to the contest this evening. Riverside, (25-4), enters the season finale with a stout .383 team batting average, led by Maebry Rice batting .500, Madison Kelley, .478, Peyton Shafer, .474, Adaline Martens, .468, Sophia Fenner, .434, and Sydney Somers, .412.
St. Edmond (30-4) sports a team batting average of .387. Mariah Myers leads the team with a batting average of .622, Lauren Gibb, .547, and Faith Shirbroun, .454.
Both squads have belted 27 home runs this season.
St. Edmond pitcher Toryn Helle has logged the majority of the innings (132), with a (15-5) record, and an earned run average of (2.33). Riverside freshman Peyton Schafer is (24-3), in (145) innings of work, and an E.R.A. of (2.22).
