(Audubon County) Regional Water crews are working to locate and repair a suspected leak that has disrupted water pressure for 64 customers in rural Audubon County, west of Hamlin along Highway 44.
The issue was first reported earlier today when a customer contacted Regional Water about unusually low water pressure. An operator was promptly dispatched, and the cause was determined to likely be a leak in the area. Due to the presence of a major underground fiber optic cable, utility locates have been called in, and repair work is on hold until the fiber company flags its lines to ensure safe excavation.
Currently, the impact is limited to rural customers in Audubon County. Regional Water reports that no low pressure or outage issues have been reported in Shelby, Pottawattamie, Cass, or Harrison counties. All towers across the Regional Water system remain at normal operating pressure.
Customers affected by the disruption are under a boil water advisory until repairs are completed and two consecutive days of bacteria testing confirm the water is safe to drink. Those impacted will be notified directly by Regional Water.
Regional Water Officials state “they understand how important reliable water service is to our rural communities Their teams are ready to make repairs as soon as they are cleared to dig. They appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation during this time.”
In response to increasing demand for clear communication during service events like this, Regional Water recently partnered with the Pottawattamie County GIS Department and other stakeholders to launch an online operations dashboard. The dashboard provides real-time updates on tower status and service area conditions, and is accessible at: https://rwrwa.org/operations-status-dashboard-2
Residents are encouraged to visit the dashboard or check with their local county websites for updates as the situation develops.
