(Atlantic) The Atlantic Trojan baseball team made impressive strides during the 2025 season, showing marked improvement from the year before. After finishing 2024 with a 1-23 record, the Trojans bounced back to go 9-16 this year, closing the season strong by winning eight of their final 14 games.
Head Coach Nathan Block noted that following the challenging one-win season, the Trojans opened 2025 by playing competitively against tough opponents such as Glenwood, Harlan, and Denison-Schleswig. While early victories were hard to come by, the team showed promise from the start.
A key factor in Atlantic’s turnaround was improved offense. The team batting average climbed steadily throughout the season, led by newcomer Kale Jensen, who posted a stellar .444 average in the regular season—not including two additional hits in the finale against Harlan. Coach Block credited the team’s offensive growth to consistent work in the batting cages.
On the mound, the Trojans showed significant progress as well. Opponents hit just .185 against Atlantic pitching in 2025, a sharp drop from .246 the year before. Better control and fewer mistakes helped the team stay competitive, and with the entire pitching staff returning next season, Block sees even greater potential ahead. He believes that reducing walks, hit-by-pitches, and long at-bats will be key to becoming a serious contender in 2026.
Defensively, Atlantic also cleaned things up. The Trojans committed just 30 errors this season—less than half of the 69 they made in 2024. Coach Block attributes that improvement to experience, as many of last year’s starters were underclassmen. With the majority of the roster returning as seasoned players next season, he expects the team to continue trending upward.
With a solid core, improved fundamentals, and a full season of development behind them, the Trojans are poised to be a team to watch in 2026.
