(Oakland, IA) — Riverside pounded out 11 hits, 7 alone in the bottom of the 4th and Sophia Fenner’s RBI single scored Lilli Reed to walk it off with an 11-1 win in 4 innings over Stanton in Class 1A regional final.
The Viqueens had some hope when Kyla Hart homer to right with 2 outs in the top of the first but that was one of the few highlights for Stanton. Riverside starter Peyton Schafer only allowed three more hits the rest of the game while Riverside went through the line up three times in the four inning shortened game.
In the bottom of the first, Adaline Martens led off a triple. Sophia Fenner brought her home on a Stanton error. Madison Kelley followed with a RBI single, Schafer singled and Sydney Somers scored a run with a sacrifice fly. Riverside led 3-1.
Stanton starter Bree Mitchell kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard in the 2nd but her control disappeared in the bottom of the third inning. Mitchell walked the bases loaded — one run scored on a wild pitch and Kaycie Perkins was hit in the helmet with the bases full for a RBI and the Bulldogs led 5-1.
In the 4th, Riverside hit three straight doubles to start the inning by Fenner, Kelley, and Schafer. Somers singled, Elly Henderson got a RBI grounder, Kayden Schnack got a RBI double, Lilli Reed had a RBI single. After a fly out and walk, Fenner ended the game with a liner to left and the Bulldogs punched their ticket to Fort Dodge.
Martens led the offense going 2-3 with a double, triple and a run scored
Kelley was 2-3 with a double, 2 RBI and 2 runs
Schafer was 2-2 with a double and RBI and after giving up the homer in the first inning, did not walk anybody and struck out 3
Fenner was 2-4 with a double, 2 RBI and 2 runs.
Stanton had an incredible run in the playoffs but their season ends at 12-11.
Riverside and will be the 4 seed at the state tournament — they will face 5 seeded Newell Fonda on Tuesday, July 22 at 5:15 pm
