(Lewis, IA) — The town of Lewis has a vacancy in their City Council so a special election will be held on August 19 at the Lewis Community Center. The council position will only be a temporary one and will last until the end of the year. There will be another election for the same at large council seat on November 4 in the regular election where the winner will start a new term in 2026.
The special election is needed because Christopher Jahnke was elected mayor of Lewis on April 29, 2025.
Prospective candidates must file an affidavit of candidacy and nomination petition with a minimum of 10 signatures from eligible Lewis voters with the Cass County Auditor’s office no later than 5 pm on Friday, July 25. Nomination papers are available in the auditor’s office at the Cass County Courthouse.
