(Anita, IA) — The CAM Cougars struck early in the first round of 1A postseason baseball, taking down the Ar-We-Va Rockets in a shutout victory 7-0.
Makade Paulsen threw a complete game on the mound, striking out 13 batters, allowing two hits, and walking one. When asked what was working for him on the mound, he said his control was working well for him:
On the offensive side, the Cougars had 11 hits against Rockets pitchers Wyatt Ragaller and Blayne Smith. CAM was first on the scoreboard with Carson McKee crossing the plate, he singled to right field and eventually scored on an error. McKee had two more singles in the second and fourth inning, and scored all three times. When asked what contributed to his successful night at the plate, he said that he was doing a good job at protecting the plate:
CAM was just as aggressive as ever on the basepaths with six stolen bases out of six attempts. For the Rockets, Smith and Grant Wilken both singled for the team’s two hits, and Ragallar takes the loss on the mound striking out four, walking one and allowing 11 hits. The Rockets end their season with a record of 4-9. CAM advances to the substate 8 quarterfinals and will play Newell-Fonda on Tuesday.
