(Avoca, IA) — AHSTW will play AC/GC in Woodbine this Saturday in the first round of the Class 1A baseball playoffs. The Vikings broke a 10 game losing streak with a 2-1 win over West Monona on Monday in 8 innings. Coaches are tight lipped about who they will throw in the first round but there is no doubt that Senior Aiden Akers gets the call for AHSTW. Akers is 1-5 this season but has an impressive 2.12 ERA with 52 strikeouts in 36 plus innings and Head Coach Trey Brix says the team plays with more confidence when he is on the mound
The Vikings will probably see the Chargers ace Noah Kading who is 3-2 with a 3.23 ERA with 40 strikeouts in 32 innings. Tommy Skram and Will Skram hit at the top of the line up and AC/GC likes to play station to station baseball and Brix hopes his team is ready for the challenge
AHSTW has not tasted much success in the playoffs and Brix believes the team’s record of 4-18 does not reflect how they play
AC/GC is 9-13, game time on Saturday is 5 pm in Woodbine.
