(Atlantic) The Atlantic softball team wrapped up the week on a high note, sweeping St. Albert in a Thursday doubleheader.
In the opener, the Trojans scored four runs on seven hits securing a 4-1 victory behind a strong outing from Zoey Kirchhoff. The junior pitcher gave up just one run on four hits, striking out nine and walking one. Atlantic’s defense backed her up with a solid performance, committing only one error. At the plate, Dylin Ball led the way, going 2-for-3 and scoring a run. The Trojans broke through with a run in the third inning and added three more in the sixth. St. Albert managed their lone run in the top of the seventh.
The Trojans capped off the sweep in style, ending the second game in the bottom of the fifth with a walk-off single from Reese Ball to seal an 8-0 victory.
Dylin Ball continued her strong performance at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 and scoring the game-winning run. Atlantic’s offense struck early and often—plating one run in the first inning, three in the second, one in the third, two in the fourth, and one in the fifth to close out the game.
Peyton McLaren was dominant in the circle, tossing a two-hit shutout with flawless support from the defense, which played error-free behind her.
Atlantic will be back in action next Tuesday, hosting Sioux City East in a doubleheader before facing Harlan on Thursday in the Regional Quarterfinal.
