(Stanford, CA) — Researchers at Stanford University have some good news and some bad news about heart disease in the U.S.
The good news is deaths from heart attacks have dropped nearly 90 percent over the past 50 years. The bad news is deaths from all other types of heart disease have risen over 80 percent.
The study analyzed government data on heart disease from 1970 to 2022, and found that fewer people in the U.S. are dying from heart attacks, but more are losing their lives to hypertension, arrhythmia and heart failure. It said possible risk factors include obesity, physical inactivity and poor food choices.
