(Atlantic) — The Camblin Hills housing development is steadily progressing on the southern edge of Atlantic.
Vision Atlantic President Christina Bateman says that 19th Street, through the 49-acre development site, is now complete and will eventually be named the Lakin Foundation Boulevard. She says work on the side streets will begin as soon as weather permits.
Bateman says the housing construction portion of the project is slated to start within the next three to four weeks. The first phase of the building project includes 48 new housing units. The build consists of ten tiny homes and houses with 1,200 square feet of living space.
Bateman says the flat area in the northwest corner of the development is the future site of the 300-capacity Lakin Foundation Child Development Center of Atlantic.
Bateman says Vision Atlantic continues to fundraise for the Lakin Foundation Child Development Center and the YMCA expansion project. She stated the committee is working on temporary gap financing for these projects.
The committee has raised 60 percent of its $39 million capital fundraising goal. Bateman noted, The Charles E. Lakin Foundation has set a deadline of December 31 of this year, to have 80 percent raised in order for the foundation $8.6 million grant to kick in for the daycare and YMCA projects.
Bateman considers this to be a once-in-a-lifetime project. Christina says people can pledge in several different ways over a three- to four-year period, whether it be in cash, stocks, or grain. A donor recognition wall will be installed at the YMCA and the Child Development Center. There is a naming opportunity listing several donation levels for families and businesses.
