(Clarinda) — Atlantic mounted a thrilling comeback with five runs in the top of the sixth inning and held off a late Clarinda charge to secure a 7-6 road win Wednesday night in Hawkeye Ten Conference baseball action.
Trailing 4-2, the Trojans ignited their rally with back-to-back walks drawn by Jack Muller and Corbin Ritter. Hudson McLaren followed with a single to load the bases, setting the stage for Kale Jensen, who launched a high fly ball to left field that disappeared in the lights. The ball dropped, clearing the bases, with Jensen ending up at third.
Gavin McLaren kept the momentum rolling with a double to score Jensen, and Sawyer Tarrell ripped a hit down the line to plate Gavin and give Atlantic a sudden 7-4 lead.
Clarinda responded in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run frame to cut the deficit to 7-6. But Atlantic closer Keston Schmitt sealed the win in the seventh, working around a walk and striking out two to earn the save.
Atlantic scored seven runs on seven hits. Hudson McLaren and Kale Jensen led the Trojans with two hits. Clarinda scored six runs on seven hits, led by Nolan Wagoner with two hits and two RBI, and Ryan Wagoner’s RBI double.
The win marks another key victory for the Trojans as they continue to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season. The Trojans have now won five out of their last seven games. Atlantic hosts Red Oak on Thursday. We will have the broadcast on 95.7 F.M., and live video streamed on westerniowatoday.com TV, and YouTube. The first pitch is slated for 7:30 p.m.
