(Underwood, IA) — When it comes to high school baseball players in the state of Iowa, can there be anybody better than Underwood’s Garrett Luett? The Eagles star player is off to an astounding start this season — he has been near unhittable as a pitcher and he does nothing but hit as a shortstop. On the mound, Luett has only allowed one earned run on 10 hits in his first 5 starts with an ERA of 0.51. However, pitching is only a side gig for the junior who was recruited to the University of Iowa has a hitter and so far he leads the entire state with a .677 batting average adding 3 homers and 19 RBI. And maybe more impressive is he has only struck out one time this season and only 14 times in his high school career. Luett says his Dad taught him well
Luett says his passion for baseball started with his parents. He says he has created a lot of bonds through the game of baseball — bonds that will last a lifetime
Luett says he is a Royals fan — loves George Brett and Alex Gordon and Eric Hosmer for the 2015 World Series champs. Luett has not been to too many major league games because he has been busy playing the game but he envisions one day when he might suit up for a Major League team one day
That is years down the line — in the meantime the goal is to repeat as state champions. Luett believes that winning the state title a year ago has made himself and the team even more hungry to win it again this year
Underwood is ranked #1 in Class 2A and is 13-0 on the season — the Eagles visit Riverside for a doubleheader tonight.
