(Elk Horn) Shelby County Emergency Management flew a drone equipped with thermal imaging over the water tower on Monday, revealing that only the bottom of the bowl contained water, approximately 6 to 8 feet deep. Unfortunately, this confirmed the drone’s reading was accurate.
A faulty sensor at the water plant had been providing incorrect information, leading them to believe the tower was nearly complete. A company was onsite Monday to repair the sensor.
They also contacted the Iowa Rural Water Association (IRWA) to obtain a leak detection device for further assessment. Active efforts are underway to locate a possible water leak.
Officials urge customers to continue to conserve water until the issue is resolved.
A boil advisory remains in effect. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.
