(Atlantic) Iowa DOT District Transportation Planner Scott Suhr indicates that the state’s short construction season necessitates that crews make the most of the limited weather window. This year is no exception, with several significant projects currently underway. Suhr reports that the Council Bluffs Interstate System project is expected to be completed this summer. Additionally, work is ongoing on Interstate 80 near the Raccoon River Bridge, affecting the areas of Van Meter, De Soto, and Dallas County, with completion anticipated this fall. He also notes that resurfacing projects are in progress on I-80 in Cass and Adair Counties. Although construction is occurring, the interstate remains open to traffic.
Suhr urges motorists to slow down when entering and driving through construction zones. Moreover, Suhr mentions a bridge replacement project on Highway 71 north of Brayton, where motorists can expect short delays due to a temporary traffic signal regulating traffic flow.
Additionally, there is a major resurfacing project on Highway 148 extending from Corning south to Bedford, as well as another construction project on Highway 25 running from Highway 34 to just north of Clearfield in Union and Ringgold counties. Suhr also notes a resurfacing project on Highway 169, which runs from Highway 34 north to the Madison County line, and another resurfacing project on Highway 59, stretching from the Fremont County line south to near Shenandoah.
