(Iowa) Area law enforcement, the Iowa DOT and many other officials are warning the public about fraudulent emails and text messages.
Cass County Treasurer Tracey J Marshall says the fraudulent emails and text messages, also known as phishing attempts, appear to come from the Iowa Department of Motor Vehicles. These messages may ask for personal information, passwords, or payment details; they may contain suspicious links or attachments; and they could include the use of a DMV name, logo or staff names to appear legitimate.
Marshall said they will never ask for sensitive information via email or text. Do not click on any suspicious links or provide personal information. If you receive a message you suspect is fraudulent, do not respond.
If you have received such a message, or have any doubts about communication contact the Department directly.
