(Oakland, IA) — Watch out for the Riverside softball this season — so far the Bulldogs have won three of their first four games with their only loss coming against 6th ranked West Monona 8-6. They have also had to play with girls out of position — Adaline Martens was the team’s starting catcher but arm problems has moved her to 2nd base and Sophia Fenner has taken over behind the plate but it does not seem to affect this team according to Head Coach Lacie Patterson
Patterson preferred style of softball is to play small ball — bunt and move batters around but it seems like the Bulldogs have other ideas in mind. On Friday, Riverside played the long ball hitting three home runs in a 9-4 win over Logan Magnolia. Patterson says you just have to go with the flow
Riverside has a potential star in Freshman Payton Schafer who hit .352 with 4 HR and 28 RBI last year as an 8th grader and is off to a strong start this season. She is also the number one pitcher for the Bulldogs and Patterson says she has gotten better in the circle
Riverside will have their toughest test of the season tonight as they host Exira EHK-Audubon.
