(Lewis) The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says the newly updated fishing atlas can increase your chances of catching fish.
DNR Fisheries Biologist John Lorenzen says to Google “DNR fishing atlas Iowa,” and it will be one of the first links that pop up. There is an interactive online map that displays public fishing areas throughout the state. Lorenzen says the map will show all the lakes in Iowa, and you can zoom in to a specific lake to view the contours, locations of boat ramps, fishing cleaning facilities, and, most importantly, fish habitat structures and their types.
Lorenzen says the great thing about this app is that you can turn your location on in the app, and it will show you exactly where you are in the lake.
Lorenzen says it is a great tool and it should help anglers find their best places to fish on a given lake. Those anglers who prefer paper maps can use the print tool on the app, allowing them to take a hard copy along as well.
