(Guthrie Center, IA) — This week will be the last time that AC/GC’s Ava Campbell will compete at the State Track and Field meet and after a 4th place and two 6th place finishes a year ago, her sights are set higher.
This past year, Campbell played the role of Liesel in the Sound of Music which she says is even more nerve wracking than stepping on the blue oval and doing what she does best — run. Campbell finished 4th last year in the 1500 and 6th in the 800 and Distance Medley relay and she is hoping for something better this year. She did not meet her expectations during the cross country season, coming away injured and disappointed after the state meet. So she decided that was not going to happen during track season
Campbell says she stuck to her plan as best she could and feels like she is stronger and better prepared for the blue oval
Last year she set a new school record in the 800 and has broken it several times. This year she set a new school record in the 1500 which is her number one event that fits her like a glove
No matter what, this will not be the last time that Campbell will be competing on the track — she has chosen to run cross country and track at Northwest Missouri St.
Campbell says she will major in graphic design in college but her goals this week is to push herself past what she thinks she can do to break her personal best times and finish high on the medal stand. Campbell will anchor the Distance Medley relay on Friday at 2:40 pm and the 800 and 1500 both will be run on Saturday.
