(Avoca, IA) — Opponents of the AHSTW Baseball team must think that Aiden Akers has been pitching for the Vikings forever. Akers senior season has finally arrived and Head Coach Trey Brix is excited what he and a young freshman can do at the top of the rotation. Akers has been leaving hitters baffled with his variety of pitches and Brix says the southpaw has always had good control
Akers will be joined in the rotation with Freshman Camdyn Dresen who has impressed in the early workouts says Brix. Akers and Dresen and the rest of the pitchers will need more run support. The Vikings went 9-15 last year and it is the hitting that needs to develop for that to improve — AHSTW only hit .228 as a club in 2024. Brix believes that thing between the ears is getting in the way
Senior Branden Fineran led the team in hitting last season at a .313 clip but had only 5 RBI. Brix hopes he can run more this year even though he lost his top two baserunners Nick Denning and Caleb Hatch to graduation
AHSTW will open their season on Tuesday, May 20 at Boyer Valley.
