(Avoca) – The Regional Water Rural Water Association in Avoca is collaborating with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and other officials to restore pressure to its water system as quickly as possible.
Over the weekend, Regional Water issued a boil advisory, urging customers to boil water before drinking or cooking with it, or to use an alternative source, due to a loss of pressure in the system’s water towers. General Manager Tom Kallman explained that high demand on Saturday caused the distribution system to lose pressure. Kallman says drought-impacted wells are struggling to meet current water demands. He says the pressure drop, which affects over half of the system, raised concerns about possible bacterial contamination, prompting the advisory.
Kallman added they are doing everything possible to get water back into the system and restore pressure. A temporary booster station is being considered to help resolve the issue, but they are currently awaiting guidance from FEMA and engineering teams before moving forward.
Kallman says this would bring enough water into the system to repressurize it and lift the boil advisory.
