(Creston) – The Glenwood girls’ track team claimed the team championship at the Hawkeye Ten Conference meet on Thursday in Creston, dominating the competition with 141.5 points. The Rams secured six event victories and placed second in ten others to take home the title.
Five records fell at the meet, highlighted by standout performances. Atlantic’s Lila Wiederstein set a new meet record in the long jump, while Jerzee Knight swept the sprint events and broke the 100-meter record. St. Albert’s Lili Denton delivered a historic performance, capturing four gold medals and setting meet records in the 3000 meters, 1500 meters, and Distance Medley Relay, where she anchored her team to victory. Denton also won the 800 meters.

Denton kicked off her night by winning the 3000 meters in a record-setting 9:58.52. She followed that by anchoring the Distance Medley Relay team to a meet record of 4:15.58. Then, she claimed gold in the 800 meters with a 2:17.92 finish. She capped her night by breaking another meet record in the 1500 meters, finishing in 4:41.51. After her final race, Denton reflected on the evening.

Jerzee Knight won the 100 meters, setting a new record time of 12.19 seconds. She also excelled in the 200 meters, finishing first with 25.38 seconds. In the 400 meters, she powered through to complete the race in 58.54 seconds, and she also anchored the 4×100-meter relay team, which secured second place.

Lila Wiederstein of Atlantic had an outstanding night. The Junior set the Conference meet record in the Long Jump, going 18-01.75. The junior finished second in the 100 and 200 meters, with new personal best times of 12.48 in the 100 meters and 25.78 in the 200, and anchored the 4×100-meter relay team to a third-place finish.
Meanwhile, Glenwood claimed first-place finishes in several events, including the 800 Sprint Medley (1:50.25), the 4×800 meter relay (9:44.32), the Shuttle Hurdle Relay (1:08.50), and the 4×400 relay (4:06.96). Morgan Hughes also led the way individually, winning the 400-meter hurdles at 1:07.38.
Lewis Central finished second with 119 points. Jordan Matiyow won the shot put and the discus, tossing 40-04.74 in the Shot and 125-02 in the discus.
Clarinda finished third with 85 points. Knight’s three golds led the Cardinals, and the 4×100 meter relay finished in second place. Kylie Meier added key points in the Long Jump with a second-place finish, 16-07.75
Atlantic finished fourth with 82.5 points. Besides Wiederstein’s top two finishes, Jayci Reed finished third in the 100 hurdles (16.44), Emerie Jones finished fourth in the Long Jump (16-01.00), and third in the 4×100 meter relay with Van Aernam, Reed, Middents, and Wiederstein.
Harlan rounded out the top five with 68 points. Lindsey Sonderman finished second in the 3000 in 10:08.04. Aubrey Wegner finished third in the High Jump (4-10.00), and second in the 1500 (4:45.21).
