(Woodbine) The Riverside girls track team claimed the team championship at Thursday’s Woodbine COED Track Meet, using depth and consistency to secure the top spot in the eight-team field. The Bulldogs racked up 137 points, outpacing Treynor (123 points) and Atlantic (106 points) for the win.
Despite winning just two events, Riverside’s depth was the difference-maker. Bentley Rone led the way with a victory in the 400-meter hurdles (1:09.29), and also anchored the winning Distance Medley team along with teammates Schechinger, Henderson, and Fenner (4:29.41). The Bulldogs added a string of runner-up finishes to pile on the points: Ayla Richardson (100m hurdles, 16.90), Kayden Schnack (200m, 27.66), and Madison Kelley (discus, 102-03). Riverside relay squads also came up big, placing second in the Sprint Medley, 4×200, 4×400, and 4×800. Sophia Fenner added a second-place finish in the shot put (36-02.00).
Treynor put up a strong challenge behind seven event wins, including two from Delayna Matthews, who swept the shot put (36-7.50) and discus (105-09). Rylee Hemmingsen won the high jump (5-00.00), and Madeline Knispel took the 400 meters (1:01.27). The Cardinals also dominated the relays, winning the 4×400 (4:11.94), Shuttle Hurdle (1:10.51), and the Sprint Medley (1:57.21).
Atlantic earned third overall, led by Emerie Jones. She won both the long jump (16-04.25) and the 100-meter hurdles (16.84), and placed third in the 100-meter dash (13.14). Stella Van Aernam, fourth, (13.20). Lila Wiederstein followed closely in the long jump (16-03.75), and also helped the 4×200 relay team to a first-place finish alongside Van Aernam, Botos, and Middents in (1:49.51). The 4×100 squad also claimed gold (53.29). Morgan Botos placed second in the 400 hurdles (1:13.27), and Claire Comes finished seventh in (1:18.56). Olivia Olson turned in a pair of third-place finishes in the shot put and discus. The Shuttle Hurdle Relay came in third, (1:15.92), and the 4×400 relay ended up third in (4:29.76). Stella Van Aernam, sixth in the 200 meters, (28.75), and Jersey Phippen, seventh, (29.98). Adler Bruce finished seventh in the 100 meter hurdles, (17.92), and third in the high jump, (4-06.00). The 800 Sprint Medley claimed fourth, (2:01.88), and the he Distance Medley was sixth in 5:03.05.
Other meet highlights included Boyer Valley’s Morgan Hast, who sprinted to wins in the 100 meters (12.97) and 200 meters (27.22), and her teammate Hailey Cue, who won the 800 meters (2:29.79). Woodbine’s Adyson Lapel captured the 1500 meters (5:20.91), while Allysen Johnson, of Logan-Magnolia, won the 3000, in (11:27.16). Woodbine also won the 4×800 relay (10:45.60).
