(Washington, DC) — Americans are being ripped off by cybercriminals at record amounts.
A new report from the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center says scammers and cybercriminals stole a record 16-point-six-billion dollars from Americans last year. That’s a 33-percent increase from 2023.
A spokesperson for the FBI’s Cyber Division says they received over 850-thousand claims of scams, fraud and internet crimes in 2024, and over 80 percent of those victims reported losses due to theft of money, data or identity.
Victims age 60 and older were the most impacted.
