(Avoca, IA) — There was no track and field last night because of the weather but everyone’s attention at AHSTW will be with Luke Sternberg this evening at the Drake Relays and then Saturday with Bella Lamp. Sternberg will run in the 400 meters tonight with the race scheduled to start at 5:46 pm. Last week, the Senior broke the school record in the 400 and he has the fastest time in Class 1A this year. Vikings Head Coach Jackson Renberg says that Sternberg seems to have the Midas touch when it comes to sports
Audio PlayerRenberg does have a dilemma with Sternberg — right now he is running in the 400, 200, 100 and the Sprint Medley relay. During the state meet, the 100 prelims and the 400 finals are on the same day so does he continue with that schedule or shift Sternberg to another relay. He says that is a decision that will need to be made.
The one relay that Renberg is happy with is the 4×800 with Collin Harder, Caden Geraghty, Ty Nelson and Chase Wheatley
Audio PlayerRenberg will sort out the other relays when he gets healthy — he says that a couple of guys have been slowed by injuries
Audio PlayerIn the throws, Jett Peterson got a season PR on Tuesday night in the discus but Renberg says he has been hard on himself and has not achieved some of the results that he would like but Renberg has confidence in him
Audio PlayerAHSTW will be back on the track next Tuesday at Woodbine. Bella Lamp will run in the Drake Relays Saturday at 2:12 pm.
