(Shelby Co) A road rage incident in the early hours of April 22 along Highway 44 has led to an attempted murder charge after a violent confrontation resulted in a crash and gunfire.
According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were contacted about an ongoing road rage situation that was unfolding westbound on Highway 44 from Harlan. Upon responding, authorities discovered a crash scene involving one vehicle that had veered into a ditch. The second vehicle involved had already fled the area.
The driver of the wrecked vehicle sustained injuries and was transported to Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan for treatment.
As the investigation unfolded, authorities learned that the suspect had been driving a white pickup truck. Investigators say the suspect fired multiple rounds into the victim’s vehicle and struck it at a high speed, forcing it off the road.
The suspect was later identified as 23-year-old Jacob Snyder. A warrant for his arrest on a charge of Attempted Murder was issued. Snyder was located in Bellevue, Nebraska, and is currently in custody at the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office awaiting extradition to Iowa.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the investigation by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Iowa State Patrol, Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office, Bellevue Police Department, and Omaha Police Department.
