(Red Oak) On Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Red Oak Police Department will partner with the Drug Enforcement Administration for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, which will take place at various locations nationwide. The DEA and its collaborators will collect various solid forms of prescription medications, including tablets, capsules, and patches.
For more than a decade, this initiative has provided a simple way for Americans to dispose of unneeded medications—specifically those that are old, unwanted, or expired—helping to prevent potential misuse.
Take Back Day offers a free and anonymous way to properly dispose of these medications at nearly 5,000 local drop-off sites nationwide. Since the program began, it has successfully removed approximately 19.2 million pounds (or 9,600 tons) of medications from circulation in collaboration with local law enforcement.
Please note that collection sites will not accept syringes, sharps, or illegal drugs. Liquid medications like cough syrup should remain sealed in their original containers, with caps securely tightened to avoid leaks.
