(Council Bluffs) The Glenwood girls won six events and scored 154 points, and captured the team title at the Lewis Central COED track meet on Tuesday. Lewis Central finished second with 128, Clarinda, third, 80, Harlan, fourth, 77, and Atlantic finished fifth out of 14 teams with 67 points.
Glenwood-Grace Berglund kicked off the meet with a dominant win in the 3,000 meters, finishing first with a time of 10:28.68. She later returned to claim another victory in the 800 meters, clocking 2:27.77.
The Rams’ 4×800 meter relay team of M. Berglund, Megan Hughes, Hebel, and Petersen took first place with an impressive time of 9:47.11. The 800 Sprint Medley squad—Dougherty, Wright, Koontz, and Schultz—also earned top honors, winning in 1:52.22.
Megan Hughes captured the 400 meter hurdles title in 1:06.47, while Breckyn Petersen followed closely behind for second in 1:06.55. Glenwood closed out the meet strong with a first-place finish in the 4×400 meter relay, as Schultz, Hughes, Petersen, and Hughes combined for a winning time of 4:08.76.
In the field events, Abi Hiller secured a runner-up finish in the Discus with a throw of 106-02.
Lewis Central had a standout day, led by Olivia Ausdemore, who claimed victory in the High Jump by clearing 5-00.00. Teammate Megan Scheel followed closely behind, taking second with a mark of 4-10.00.
Jordyn Matiyow delivered a dominant performance in the Shot Put, winning the event with a throw of 39-04.00, and also secured third place in the Discus with a toss of 104-10. On the track, Aubree Davis sprinted to gold in the 400 meters, finishing in 1:00.40, and added a second-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 26.77. The event was won by Grace Erick of Sioux City East, who crossed the line in 25.22.
Delayna Reese took second place in the 3,000 meters, clocking 10:35.76, while Madelyn Hoss earned silver in the 800 meters with a time of 2:28.96 and claimed third in the 3,000 meters with a 10:58.33 finish.
Clarinda-Jerzee Knight, a Drake Relays qualifier, turned in a strong performance, finishing as the runner-up in both the 100 meters and 400 meters. She clocked 12.40 in the 100, just behind Grace Erick of Sioux City East, who won the race in 12.18, and posted a time of 1:00.51 in the 400. Knight also anchored the Cardinals’ winning 4×100 relay team, teaming up with Comer, Barnes, and Meier to take first place with a time of 50.79.
Harlan– The highlights included a second-place finish in the 4×800 meter relay as the Bieker, Rau, and Schechinger duo combined for a time of 10:15.71.
Lindsey Sonderman claimed runner-up honors in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:46.91, while teammate Ashlyn Rau followed close behind in fourth at 5:01.38. Brylee Schechinger added another fourth-place finish in the 800 meters, crossing the line in 2:32.63.
In the field events, Aubree Wegner placed fourth in the High Jump, clearing 4-10.00.
Atlantic-Atlantic’s Trojan squad delivered a strong performance, highlighted by the Shuttle Hurdle Relay team of Adler Bruce, Ava Botos, Jayci Reed, and Emerie Jones, who took first place with an impressive time of 1:09.52. Reed also earned a second-place finish in the 100 Meter Hurdles, clocking in at 16.41.
Olivia Olson placed fourth in the Shot Put with a throw of 34-07.00 and added a fifth-place finish in the Discus with a mark of 100-04. Emerie Jones continued her standout meet with a fourth-place finish in the Long Jump, recording a distance of 16-05.25.
In distance events, Katrina Williams claimed fifth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 12:01.04. On the sprinting side, Stella Van Aernam placed fifth in the 100 meters with a time of 13.21, and the 4×100 Meter Relay team finished in 52.00.
Adler Bruce also earned sixth place in the High Jump, clearing 4-06.00. The 4×400 Meter Relay team of Jones, Meyer, Andersen, and Hagen placed seventh with a time of 4:33.71. Wrapping up the day, the Trojans’ Distance Medley Relay team of Hagen, Phippen, Comes, and Williams finished eighth.
Red Oak’s Jocelyn O’Neal delivered a strong performance in the Long Jump, earning second place with an impressive mark of 17-04.25. She also anchored the 4×400 Meter Relay team—alongside Jones, Jenkins, and Ogden—which secured a runner-up finish with a time of 4:19.17.
Underwood’s Maddy Irwin led the way with a first-place finish in the 100 Meter Hurdles, clocking in at 16.37. She also teamed up with Bettes, Stangl, and Adams to secure a runner-up finish in the 800 Sprint Medley with a time of 1:52.22.
St. Albert’s Distance Medley Relay team captured first place with a time of 4:18.58, thanks to strong legs from Walter, Monahan, S. Denton, and Drake Relays qualifier Lillie Denton, who anchored the squad. Denton also claimed individual gold in the 1500 meters, crossing the line in a winning time of 4:37.04.
