(Des Moines, IA) – Only one Democratic candidate has declared their candidacy to replace Governor Kim Reynolds next year.
Paul Dahl is a Webster City man who ran unsuccessfully for Governor and Congress. There’s speculation that State Auditor Rob Sand will run, but it’s been over a year since he’s talked about it.
Democratic House Minority Leader Jennifer Konfrst says whoever enters the race has a better chance in an open field than running against an incumbent.
Meanwhile, the Iowa Senator who proposed that the state buy several Minnesota counties is considering a run for Governor. Senator Mike Bousselot says he is launching an exploratory campaign for the Governor’s seat.
Bousellot grew up in the Quad Cities area and was chief of staff for former Iowa Governor Terry Branstad. Earlier this year, Bousellot filed a bill proposing the purchase of nine counties in southern Minnesota. That bill stalled in committee.
Brad Sherman, a former Iowa state legislator and current pastor from Williamsburg, Iowa, announced his candidacy for Governor in late February.
