(Atlantic) The Atlantic boys’ track team will resume competition this Tuesday at Lewis Central. Last week, the Trojans continued to achieve season-best times, wrapping up their competition at Council Bluffs during a meet that was shortened due to weather on Thursday.
Atlantic’s throwers, Gavin McLaren and Xavier Darrow, have consistently reached new personal records. During the meet in Council Bluffs, Darrow excelled in the discus, winning with a personal best throw of 152-00. Meanwhile, McLaren notched a personal best of 140-20. He also claimed second place in the shot put with 53-00 feet, another PR for the Trojans. On the track, first-year track and field performer Luke Irlmeier posted a second-place finish in the 3,200 meters. Atlantic Head Coach Abby Becker stated Irlmeier ran a good strategic race last Thursday at Council Bluffs.
Audio PlayerThe Sprint Medley Relay Team of Zander Killion, Ethan McNeal, Jarrett Hansen, and Preston Williams finished second at Council Bluffs in a season-best time of 1:38.06. Ashton Rutherford had a personal best 17-06.00 in the Long Jump, Zander Killion and Jarrett Hansen ran personal bests in the 100 meters, and Anthony Akers and Vincent Meisinger in the 800 meters. Additionally, Colin Rudy and Tyson O’Brien finished third and fourth in the 400 meters at Council Bluffs in 52.36 and 53.94, respectively. Coach Becker says another highlight was Jaxon Hepler’s best time in the 400-meter hurdles. The freshman ran 59.66 and finished fourth.
Audio PlayerAdditionally, in meets this past week, Preston Williams ran a season-best time in the 400 meters, Shelton Mualia ran a personal best in the 110-meter Hurdles, and three relays ran season-best times, including the 4×200, 4×100, and 4×400-meter relays.
Looking ahead, Coach Becker mentioned that some athletes will compete in the CAM Varsity Meet in Atlantic on Tuesday, while others will participate at Lewis Central. The Trojans are set to travel to Carroll on Thursday.
