(Neola, IA) — Of all the seasons for sports in the state of Iowa, spring has the most athletes participating in dual sports. Right now, few athletes are having the success that Quincey Schneckloth of Tri Center is having. The Senior is the leading scorer for the undefeated soccer team which is ranked 11th in the state and she is one of the leaders on the track and field team and has helped the Shuttle Hurdle Relay team qualify for the Drake Relays. Schneckloth says its not easy going from one sport to the other but she makes it work somehow
Audio PlayerOn the track, her primary event is the 400 Hurdles where her best time is 1:08.15 — that ranks 8th in Class 2A right now. Originally she ran the 800 but her coach told her that running the 400 Hurdles takes about the same amount of energy as the 800 and she has always preferred running hurdles. The shuttle team last Thursday got a season PR of 1:07.28 which ranks 13th in the state. That’s good enough to go to the Drake Relays and Schneckloth talks about her teammates
Audio PlayerFor soccer, the Trojans are 6-0-2 and Schneckloth leads the team with 6 goals from her striker position but Schneckloth says its not the offense that is the strength of the team
Audio PlayerJuggling both sports is difficult — athletes who do it are asked to pick one that is a priority if there is a conflict on the schedule and Schneckloth has picked track. It has not been a problem so far but it will this week when there are track meets and soccer games Tuesday and Friday. She says she will not play athletics in college so this is her last chance to make memories in sports and she says she has goals
Audio PlayerAfter high school, Schneckloth says she will go to Drake University and major in pre-pharmacy. The Trojans will run in the Drake Relays on Saturday at 11:57 am.
