(Des Moines) The National Weather Service says widespread rainfall and occasional thunderstorms are expected across the area today.
Forecasters say stronger storms will be most likely in southern and southeastern Iowa, where a few may become severe, capable of producing damaging winds, hail, and a brief tornado. Rainfall totals of one to two inches are expected area-wide, with locally higher amounts approaching three inches.
As far as the timing it appears rain will begin in the south this morning and spread northward through the day, with thunderstorms most likely during this afternoon and evening.
