(Council Bluffs) Mother Nature interrupted the Council Bluffs Boys’ Invitational track meet on Thursday night, leaving three events unfinished.
The Atlantic boys’ track team showcased strong performances throughout the competition. Xavier Darrow and Gavin McLaren excelled in the discus, securing first and second places, respectively. Darrow achieved a season-best throw of 152-0, while McLaren followed closely with a personal best of 140-20. Additionally, McLaren set a new personal record in the shot put with a throw of 53-00 feet, earning second place.
In the running events, Atlantic took second in the 800 Sprint Medley, finishing in 1:38.06, with Glenwood winning the event at 1:37.30. Luke Irlmeier also stood out, securing second place in the 3200 meters with a time of 11:22.17, behind Erik Heslink of Harlan, who won in 11:05.34. Ethan McNeal captured first place in the 100 meters, clocking in at 11.51, while Brayden Sifford of Red Oak finished second with a time of 11.66. In the 400 meters, Colin Rudy placed third in 52.36 seconds, and Tyson O’Brien took fourth in 53.94 seconds.
Luke Sternberg from AHSTW impressed in two sprint events, winning the 200 meters in 22.7 seconds and dominating the 400 meters with a time of 49.27 (School Record). Unfortunately, the 1600-meter, 4×100-meter, and 4×400-meter relays were canceled due to the arrival of strong storms in the area.
